Apple does not do trade-ins, although they may pay you a small amount if you bring it in for recycling. There is little you can do to upgrade it. You can put in a larger and/or faster HDD or SSD. You can add RAM up to the computer's stipulated maximum which is 8 GBs for your model.

There is no 10.12 except in Beta. Your model can install it, but for now 10.11.6 is the latest OS X version. If gaming is what you wish to do then you don't have the right hardware. Mac laptops are not made for hard-core gaming.

All of them. But heavy gaming means a need for either external cooling or limited time periods in order to avoid overheating. Of course, the top-end models would be the best choices. This would include the 15" and 13" MBPs with the top CPUs available. In general at least 8GBs of RAM. All new models come with internal SSDs but support external storage as well.

This suggestion is based on the fact that the larger models provide more cooling capacity than the lighter models provide.
